Memorials

Great consideration should be taken with your choice...

A memorial is a lasting tribute to a loved one and this is reflected in the design and material you select.

Granite memorialGranite is the hardest material used for the making of a memorial. It comes in various colours and lends itself to polishing, bringing out the true beauty of the stone. The most common form of ornamentation is by etching designs into the polished surface.

Marble memorialWhite Marble is the most widely used. It is normally blue-white in colour with darker blue-grey graining.

Dove Grey Marble has all the attributes of white marble and is blue-grey in colour with heavy figuring.

Nabresina or Roman Stone memorialNabresina or Roman Stone is a beige coloured marble well suited for Churchyards where white marble is not permitted. Like white marble, it lends itself to fine floral carving and sculpture.

Inscriptions

Roman, Roman Italic, Block, Old English and Chancery are suggested fonts - we can supply a layout of the required inscription in a particular font for your consideration.

With marble or nabresina the recommended method is to cut the letters and lead fill them to give a longer lasting option, therefore a font which has thin sides should not be used. It is possible to cut and paint letters onto these materials but as they are slightly porous, the paint is not as durable as lead filling the letters.

Granites are more suited to cut and painted letter, with gilded letters being the more durable option.

The inscription is charged by the letter and these charges are included in our memorial brochure - please contact us to obtain your free copy.
