Helpful Guidance

On your initial contact with Barrells a named funeral director will be appointed to you and your family to discuss the arrangements, conduct the funeral and offer help and assistance at every stage.

We are committed to making the process of arranging a funeral as stress free as possible by informing you of the choices available to you and then carrying out your wishes in a professional manner.

Once you have made contact with us the following will take place:

  1. We will ask you for preliminary details concerning the person who has passed away.

  2. With your permission we will arrange to collect your loved one and take them to our Chapel of Rest.

  3. At a time convenient to you and your family, our Funeral Director will arrange to meet you, either in your home or at our premises, to discuss your requirements. Please note, we are able to cater for all religious denominations and non religiouspreferences, for both burial and cremation. Our nearest crematorium is Portchester Crematorium although there are others within easy travelling distance.

  4. If no specific instructions have been left, we can advise you of the types of service available.

  5. The final account will be sent to you or your solicitor. At this stage we will ask you for a sum of money to pay for disbursements. These are fees which we pay in advance on your behalf, such as cemetery and crematoria fees. Whilst discussing these services with you, the Funeral Director is obliged to verbally inform you of all costs and to confirm these with a written estimate, sent by post, for your approval. We ask that the account is settled within 8 weeks. However, should there be circumstances that make this impossible, please keep us informed.

If you are eligible for a funeral payment from the DSS Funeral Fund, please ask your Funeral Director for a form known as the SF200. Please note, all claims must be sent to the DSS prior to the funeral taking place.
